Imagism: a subset of Modernist poetry • In traditional poetry, poets describe images in great detail, and then link the images to a philosophical idea or theme. • In Imagist poetry, the writer does not talk about the themes behind the image; they let the image itself be the focus of the poem. Michael Golston specializes in 20th-century poetry and poetics and modern cultural history. He is especially interested in avant-garde and experimental writing, and has published articles and reviews in American Literary History,Paideuma, Textual Practice, and Modernism/Modernity. He also has essays in two collections: American Modernism Across the Arts and New Definitions of Lyric: Theory.
